8 Friends gathered at the end of summer

At the start of meeting, a Friend mentioned excitement about Norwood's fellowship with Quaker Earthcare Witness, which you can read about here!

We started with only 6 Friends gathered, which prompted some discussion:

  • How can we gather more of the group?

    • Check in if this time still works for people

    • Send out a reminder about the meeting sooner.

Jules expressed concern over not getting much time to worship with this group of Friends from many different meetings, and there followed some discussion about how long worship should be in these meetings.

A Friend offered that usually the worship time for a 1-hour committee meeting is 2-5 minutes. There was a sense that this was the right amount of time, but maybe we should consider other opportunities to worship as a group.

Then, we proceeded to some agenda items:

How long should meetings be?

  • Try to stick to an hour - we could easily fill more time, but it's a commitment to gather in the evening and we want to respect people's time.

Jules gave a brief introduction to Leaflet, the program where these notes are written

We asked if there's a better way to set up the zoom link

  • Decided to use Poughkeepsie zoom link, which is always open and available on Thursday evenings

Freedom Quilt updates:

  • Ask meetings to announce Freedom Quilt dates, and print flyers. Get the word out!

  • Send out flyer to MHQ list

We turned to talking about the artistic interest in our group:

Patty mentioned Make it matter, a Creative activism workshop at the Local in Saugerties that may interest Friends.
