7 Friends gathered on a beautiful Tuesday night, with the following agenda:

  • Discuss our presence at the Freedom Walk Bonfire at Oakwood Friends school

  • Plans to gather on the Walkway Over the Hudson

  • Jules suggests this group is a care committee for the Life of the Quarter

  • A report back about Claudia and Jules’ recurring meetings at Bulls Head-Oswego to work on the website

This is our first official meeting with representatives from all 4 active meetings!

Our presence at the Freedom walk bonfire:

Oakwood Friends school will provide us with a table and chairs, and we will try to have some literature to share with folks.

Gathering on the Walkway over the hudson:

We want to gather on a beautiful weekend afternoon with brochures and good energy.

As we discussed the nature of the gathering, (Worship? Vigil? Public Ministry?) it became clear that what we wanted was a field trip! Maybe even a picnic :)

We’ve decided on Saturday, July 25 with a rain date the following week, giving us some time to plan. (Don is going to check with the folks at the walkway.)

Discourse:

It would be helpful to have a brochure with information about the Quakers in this area.

*9 Partners Monthly Meeting wants to be included in such a list*

Claudia may reach out to Tom Angell to find out if 9 Partners wants to share any information beyond their existance as a Christ-centered meeting.


MHQ as a care committee for the Life of the Quarter:

Jules suggested this as an evolution of our status as a “task group”.

In their words:

“I have found that holding this group as a care committee for the Life of the Quarter clicks things into place for me. This offers a point of unity and clarity for our actions and how to represent ourselves to our meetings.”

Several Friends responded positively to this suggestion.

Don suggested that this naming focuses on ‘inreach’, and that one of the motives of ‘Mid Hudson Quakers’ was outreach: Witness and Ministry.

Overall, the sense was that this was a fitting title, but it was unclear what to do with that sense.

Discourse:

Patty suggests that it would be great to have editorials in the newspaper speaking to our testimonies. We discussed the active papers in our area, and considered who would write these editorials.

Jules and Claudia have formed an interest group!

We’ve met twice at the Bulls Head-Oswego gathering room with some lunch and spent several hours working together and socializing.

It has been a delight to meet in person and work on something we’re both passionate about. (namely the MHQ website.)

We highly recommend this to other Friends as a flexible and fun way to work together on a shared interest.

We’re meeting next on Tuesday, June 2nd at 11am. Any with an interest are welcome to join :)

Who`s the clerk?

Jules clerked provisionally again, but we still don’t have an official clerk. Jules expressed that they enjoyed facilitating the meeting and want to take notes, but they don’t want to take on responsibilities involving emails such as sending out meeting links and reminders or being the “point of contact” person.

For now it seem like we are seeking a co-clerk.
